Dear Holy Trinity Parish Family,

After much prayer and reflection I have decided to request retirement following my 70th birthday in early October. Bishop Walkowiak has accepted my request. My final weekend here will be October 10-11.

I am very grateful for almost 44 years of priestly service. I have been blessed with wonderful assignments and opportunities over these years. I am especially grateful to have served Holy Trinity Church & School since July 2009 and I have been warmly welcomed here for my final assignment. I have come to know and love this parish and I am grateful to have shared much with you over these 11 years and I treasure many happy memories. I am not retiring from the priesthood but from service as a pastor. I will continue to live on the northwest side of Grand Rapids where I was born and raised. I guess you could say that I’ve come full circle!

Fr. Chris Rouech, currently serving as Pastor of St. Pius X Parish in Grandville, will become the 13th Pastor of Holy Trinity on Tuesday, October 13. His first weekend here will be October 17-18. I have known Fr. Chris for many years and I am confident that the Parish and School will have a devoted shepherd who will use his gifts and talents to lead and guide the parish. Pray for him as he makes the transition from his current parish to Holy Trinity.

I have been asking the Holy Spirit to guide me and all of us in this transition. This decision did not come easily. I have wanted to be a priest since I was in 4th grade and it hardly seems possible that the years have gone so quickly. I am the last person in my Grand Rapids ordination group to retire. I trust the Holy Spirit to show me the path forward. Pray for me as I pray for you and Holy Trinity Parish Family.
